Roofing is consolidating quickly. National size does not automatically mean poor work, but when a brand grows across dozens of markets, homeowners should ask: who will still be accountable after the crew leaves?
The pace of consolidation is real
In September 2025, Gridiron Capital combined Leaf Home and Erie Home into a company with more than 300 field offices in 48 states and Canada. Erie reached 100 locations after more than doubling its footprint in four years. Industry reporting counted 56 active private-equity-backed roofing platforms by March 31, 2025, up from 17 two years earlier, and 134 roofing transactions in 2024.
The pattern is broader: Brightstar Capital acquired Best Choice Roofing with more than 85 locations in 24 states; CCMP-backed Omnia added eight partners and reached 18 states in 2024; and LightBay Capital and Freeman Spogli backed Infinity Home Services to accelerate acquisitions.
A North Metro homeowner recently reported that an Erie Home sales visit lasted nearly four hours and felt high-pressure. Erie’s asphalt-roof estimate was about $35,000; a local roofing contractor’s estimate was about $20,000. We have not matched every line item, material, warranty, or financing term, so this is not a perfect apples-to-apples study. A reported $15,000 gap still makes a written scope comparison and second opinion essential.
One experience does not define every national company. It does show why homeowners should identify who owns the business, makes the recommendation, supervises installation, and handles future problems.
What a strong local roofer can offer
Direct accountability. The owner’s reputation is tied to work performed in the same community.
Local judgment. A North Metro contractor works every season with Colorado hail, wind, snow, intense sun, freeze-thaw cycles, and local permitting.
A right-sized recommendation. The inspection can begin with your roof and the repair-versus-replacement choice, not a national sales script.
Continuity. A nearby team is easier to reach for documentation, repairs, and workmanship follow-up.

Public-source research current through September 30, 2026. The local quote comparison is a homeowner report supplied to Mile High and was not independently audited. The cited evidence does not establish that any named national company performs poor work or that Erie opened more than 40 offices in a single year.
